windows down and the radio up

Making commercials for the past couple years has exposed me to a lot of new cars. Currently I'm driving a cheap import that I bought after running my previous cheap import into the ground. I used to care about the kind of car I drove; not to the extent that I spent more than my frugally managed bank account would allow, but I made sure whatever I could afford suited me. Several years on the same set of wheels has finally worn on me, and after riding in my friend's VW wagon, I started to think it might be time again for a new ride. Something to tide me over until they get all-electric technology worked out.

Buying local is a new-age trend I can really get behind. I never cared before about cars being made in Michigan, but now I'm looking at a Dodge Caliber. Perhaps the runt of the Chrysler litter, the Caliber feels like my kind of car. For the past few weeks I've started looking for them on the road and sightings have been pleasantly few and far between (I like an uncommon car.) I've wanted a hatchback since I graduated from school and had in the back of my head the thought that I might be carrying around video equipment. Transporting a bicycle or a trunk load of empty bottles are good reasons, too. I'm excited to listen to my iPod in my car again (which won't stop me from burning monthly mix CDs.) I'm going to wait until I find a white one, probably an '08 or '09, and paint one of my white Apple logo stickers black as an inversion of the white-on-black look my bumper currently has.

One thing's for sure, I'm doing it right and getting a sunroof.

Too bad these aren't an option...
