album review: Forgiveness Rock Record

Broken Social Scene has always been one of those bands that I don't need to listen to all the time. I say 'need' because it's a point that I could enjoy listening to some song of theirs at almost any given time. Somehow they seem to manage a consistent, appealing sound and perform it in different styles. So far, all I've heard of their new album has been on my laptop between busy periods at work. This morning one of my favorite directors, Edgar Wright, tweeted about the song "Beautiful Kill" so I decided to put it on. This album entices no matter what order you listen to it in. It made a wonderful accompaniment to a morning sitting at my desk with a good cup of coffee waiting for our clients to arrive. I believe it will be just as at home coming out my living room windows on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Each immediately enjoyable track demands more time to absorb its intricacies. Usually I turn music off when my boss comes back into the room, but today I just turned it down. It will be hard to pick only one of these songs for my June mix.
